Netsurfer and Broadcom Enter Development Relationship

Joint Effort Provides Auto-Installation and Open Access Solution for DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS Cable Modems and Gateways

ATLANTA, Ga. – June 11, 2001 – Netsurfer, Inc., a leading provider of advanced subscriber provisioning and management solutions for broadband and dialup Internet access providers worldwide, today announced a relationship with Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM) to provide a solution for DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS Cable Modem and Broadband Gateway Cable Modem auto-installation and open-access requirements. NetKit® from Netsurfer provides a straightforward solution for self-provisioning and subscriber management, which reduces cable data providers’ operational and support costs while opening new marketing opportunities. NetKit also addresses open access requirements, permitting cable operators to manage and provision multiple Internet Service Providers (ISPs) on their cable networks.

As part of this agreement, Broadcom will offer NetKit as an option to Broadcom’s complete line of DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS reference designs, provided to OEM cable modem manufacturers.

“Broadcom is the clear leader in DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS cable modem and Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) chip technology and we are pleased to enter into this strategic relationship,” said Stephen J. Walden, President and CEO of Netsurfer.

“Together we can offer high speed data and broadband gateway solutions that help the cable industry expand its reach and market share by making it easier for customers to be connected and stay connected, whether in a single or a multiple ISP environment.”

“Cable operators have been seeking ways to make modem installation easy enough to be handled by the subscriber, and also give their customers a choice of ISPs,” said John Gleiter, Director of Marketing, Cable Modem and VoIP Products for Broadcom. “Netsurfer has developed excellent software to address these important customer requirements, and we are pleased to team with them to provide this highly-effective and simple-to-use solution to our DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS cable modem and Broadband Gateway customers. In addition, our relationship with Netsurfer broadens the market for cable modems by encouraging growth of retail channels for DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS cable modem and Broadband Gateway distribution.”
